Skyfire: A self-portrait

Skyfire, also known by the pseudonym Maxwell West, (born January 4, 1980) is a furry artist. A resident of New York City, he is a painter and illustrator who draws anthropomorphic animals in a style influenced by various newspaper comics styles.

Skyfire has a webcomic called Animal Pens, which he updates about weekly, and has produced a comics zine called FARM ("Free Animals Resisting Malevolence").

Skyfire spent formative years reading all kinds of comics: manga, foreign and domestic Disney comics, superheroes, graphic novels, Franco-Belgian titles like Asterix the Gaul and Tintin. Skyfire though considers newspaper comics to be his biggest influence with titles such as Peanuts, Pogo, Garfield, the Far Side, and Krazy Kat being amongst his favorites, and many others. Skyfire is an alumnus of Guy Gilchrist's Cartoonist's Academy, where he learned to draw via distance education. He also produces paintings in watercolor and gouache, learning how to do so on his own. As of 2007-8, he has been leaning more towards drawing inflation and hyper-endowed females.

Skyfire has galleries on deviantART and on Fur Affinity where he puts his drawings, paintings, stories, poetic verse, and personal photographs.

Skyfire is a fan of the 1980s property/toyline, Care Bears, and has a fair collection of the Care Bear plushies and merchandise. He is friends with Yiffer Fox and Rapid T. Rabbit.
