The okapi (Okapia johnstoni) is an African herbivore, a close relative of the giraffe. It resembles a deer, with a brown body and black-and-white striped legs. Like the giraffe, okapis are notable for the length and dexterity of their tongues. Unusually for a large mammal, it was unknown to science until the year 1901.
The best-known okapi character in the fandom is Ayame's "Ogun", although, since his appearance, many others have been created.
