Rat regained control of the Yerf.com (see article on Yerf) domain in July 2008. He had retired from administration of the site ten years previously, stating that he would "as an advisor with technical things, but as far as all the decisions on who gets on, what gets deleted, and the general direction the site goes, that's all up to" Scotty Arsenault.[1]In his announcement, Rat stated he would "still retain DNS on the name yerf.com, so I could always pull the plug if I think they're taking it in bad direction".[1]

In 2001 Scotty handed administration and the server over to Dingo. In December 2004, the hard disk of Yerf failed. Yerf was partially rebuilt through 2005 and 2006, then went down again in 2007.

In his 2008 post, Rat linked to Dingo's November 2007 LiveJournal post directing people to Yerf merchandise on CafePress. Rat wrote:

I've had enough of watching my creation dragged through the mud like this, he took everyone's donations before, and the server still never came online. I can never tell people I started yerf.com since it has such a bad name now. He should have just given the money back instead of keeping it since he never brought the site back. [...] Yerf is mine, he only succeeded at ruining it when I let him run it, so I'm taking it back.
