The giraffe is a species of herbivore which resides on the African plains and savannah. It is known for its extraordinarily long neck, as well as the long, purple tongue which it uses in order to strip leaves off of the large Acacia trees it must reach up to for it's sustenance. One of the giraffe's few close relatives in the animal kingdom is the okapi.

In furry fandom, giraffes are less common than many other species. One possible reason for this is that the species' long neck makes it problematic to make an anthropomorphic giraffe fit in easily alongside anthropomorphs of other species.
