FurNation Worlds
From WikiFur, the furry encyclopedia.

FurNation Worlds is (as of May 2008) a group of several islands in Second Life. Primarily maintained by Nexxus and other members of FurNation, it contains public areas for furs to socialize, two sandboxes for building, a Skymall to allow vendors to sell their wares and Club Fur, a virtual nightclub. The land is rated "mature", allowing adult content, including pose balls that simulate sexual activities.
Because these islands are one of the focal points for furry activity in Second Life, lag there can be fairly high. There were attempts to decrease lag caused by the numerous buildings on the original two islands by reducing the size of the textures being used as much as possible, without sacrificing too much quality.
Initially much of the funds for expansion of the island group came from referral and dwell time bonuses. These have since dried up, and so alternative forms of income were and are being explored. Island tier fees are reportedly covered half by rental fees (e.g. L$350/786 sq. m with 350 primitives allowed) and Skymall income, and half by donations.

[edit] Islands
The islands are a mix of public features and private land. All the land is jointly owned by the FurNation admin group, which until December 2006 made it not possible for users to terraform or return items left by other people, as it was not "their" land.
Several significant buildings are far above the ground, beyond normal flying reach. They can be accessed by using the teleportation pads scattered throughout the islands.
New sims continue to be brought online.
[edit] FurNation Prime
FurNation Prime is, as the name implies, the "main" or "primary" sim. Its official theme is "Egypt in the 21st Century". Several features of the design (most notably the teleports) are lifted from Stargate.
To the far southeast is the somewhat luridly-decorated Club Fur (owned by Cobalt Neutra), and just west of that are the Roman Baths (also known as the Bath House which was moved to FurNation Reia and is managed by Corsi Mousehold), which is pithily - but fairly accurately - described as a "fucking furries zone". Now in the place of the Roman Bathhouse in Prime is a parcel dedicated to the Ark (owned by Shadowquine Maltz).
[edit] Luxor
Prime's central feature is the FurNation Worlds Luxor, a pyramidal structure adjacent to the FurNation Worlds welcome center. The basement of the Luxor used to hold the FurNation Prime shopping area until it was moved to the Skymall.
The Luxor was founded on 3 June 2005, built by Selkit Diller with later modifications by Nexxus, and basement work was done by Wolf Rocco.
As of September 2006, Axeonos Fluffball took over the Luxor as Manager. She has managed to organize several signs, billboards, and vendors used to benefit FurNation to be placed there. She has two lucky chairs there as well.
The Luxor remains in the top 5 most visited places in FurNation Worlds, as it is typically the first thing new visitors see when they come to these sims.
Prime originally came online in April of 2005 as just FurNation.
[edit] FurNation Alpha
As of April 2007, FurNation Alpha had been bought out by Corsi Mousehold and was currently undergoing renovations pending the move of the Skymall. Plans for the sim were still only rumors at that point, including the possibility of a medieval theme.
[edit] FurNation Vista
Vista is largely occupied by a giant sandbox, in the center of which is an equally large obelisk with pharaoh chevrons jutting from its sides. Leased lots are present around the edge of the sandbox, many of them (mostly concentrated in the northeastern corner) selling avatars or pets. In March 2007, Vista was sold to Corsi Mousehold.
Vista originally came online in December 2005 after the sandboxes that were once in Alpha and Prime became overused by the community.
[edit] FurNation Aqua
FurNation Aqua, originally called FurNation Phoenix, came online in May 2006. It was an exact mimic of FurNation Tria. The FurNation Lake was put back in this sim with rental parcels to the eastern shore. The Dive Shack (owned by Jumpda Shark, a water loving mouse) moved from FurNation Alpha to FurNation Aqua where it would fit in better.
There is also the Old Time Radio Theatre in the southwest corner of FurNation Aqua. This theatre is sunken underwater to give the listeners the feel of being in Atlantis as they listen to the radio broadcasts every Saturday Night run by Cobalt Neutra. There, one can often hear comedy sketch teams such as the Three Stooges and Laurel & Hardy, as well as other classic radio broadcasts from the 20's, 30's, and 40's. Just like Club Fur in FurNation Prime, the Radio Theatre has a 20's and 30's-style neon-lit club design to it.
In the center of Aqua is a water park with slides and a pirate ship moored to it. On the southern border is a Light House which completes the feel of being on a lake.
As of Janaury 2007, the sim was sold to Bahamut Harbinger and his real life wife, Ladivampkitti Akula.
As of May 2007, this sim was sold to Equino Falkland, and became one of the sims of his community.
As of late 2007, this sim was renamed Silken Chains I and removed from Furnation.
[edit] FurNation Kami
FurNation Kami came online in Summer of 2006 and is owned by Ookami Batra. The sim was built, laid out and managed by Zerodog Witte. Most of the sim is residential area with a shop or two found around.
In the central region of FurNation Kami is the FurNation Event Center. At first, the center was sparsely used, but the FurNation admins have planned to use it regularly. The Center has played host to FurNation Tail Sales, the launch of Avenity Husky and Fox avatar party, and a few other events.
[edit] FurNation Polaris
Owned and operated by Mathuen Lagerlof and his own team of Estate Managers. Polaris was formally owned by Logen Fasching in January of 2008, whom lost the SIM during only its first month of operation due to lack of funds. He sold it to Mathuen before leaving Second Life. Mathuen only recently was granted admin membership to FurNation, effectively canceling the plan in the works to rename the SIM. They have been mostly cooperative with the surrounding SIMs to curb greifing and "unsightly builds".
It features Mt. Polaris, the highest point in Fur Nation, and one of the tallest active volcanoes in Second Life (owned by the PRF group). There is also a large underground bunker to explore on the same parcel. There is a walkway with a hidden underground passage connecting all of the rented parcels, and some very nice looking beaches compliment its tropical theme.
It had been mostly unrented land for most of its existence thus far, but lately has been gaining more attention from renters that are reportedly from Mathuen's mainland SIMs. A recent 50% increase in the SIM's prim count is confirmed, and now provides a somewhat better price in terms of prims in Fur Nation.
Current Estate Managers for Polaris:
Mathuen Lagerlof (Owner), Erro Zenovka, Kaebora Quinnell, Kieran Hobble, Nigma Sterling, Rez Coleman, Toushiro Nishi

[edit] FurNation Alpha
FurNation Alpha originally contained the Art Gallery (displaying mature art of variable quality, including some well-known artists such as Wookiee and FoxxFire) and the FurNation Worlds Skymall. It also held some land plots available for rent.
FurNation Alpha was currently sold in the first half of January 2007 to Equino Faulkland (who also owned FurNation Asylum). Plans are being made by Equino and his staff to reconfigure the rental parcel layout and prim use in the sim. Plans for the Art Gallery and SkyMall are being made. As of February '07, the Art Gallery has been removed with no known future plans for it.
Alpha originally came online in June of 2005 when FurNation (now FurNation Prime) outgrew itself as the community's popularity boomed among Second Life furries.
[edit] Skymall
The FurNation Worlds Skymall (as of May 2008 renamed the Drakeal Mall) is one building with 5 floors for rental vendor space, which once resided in FurNation Alpha at <128,128,505>. Slots are available on the 1st floor for L$100/week with 60 prims. The 2nd floor goes for L$60/per week with 40 prims. Anything above the 3rd floor is L$50/per week with 30 prims. Rent from the SkyMall has been a significant source of income for FurNation.
The Skymall originally resided in the basement of the Luxor, but soon outgrew that structure, as well as causing significant lag issues for those just visiting the Luxor (the lag issues are still there, but they only affect those who intend to visit the Skymall). It can be most easily accessed by using a teleportation pad, or any high-altitude flying vehicle.
The Skymall was placed on its own sim (owned by Ethen Pow), and renamed the FurNation Worlds Mall, primarily to keep lag low. As of May 2008, this sim has been reclaimed by its owner and renamed the Drakeal Mall.
Known SkyMall staff have been as follows:
- Inferniel Solvang (superintendent)
- Zerodog Witte (assistant superintendent)
- Shadowspawn Soothesayer
- Axeonos Fluffball
- Chmarr Walcott
- Corsi Mousehold
- Firefox Breed

[edit] FurNation Omega
Omega was dominated by a sandbox surrounded by residential and commercial plots. It was constructed when Vista started running out of room. As of April 2007, Omega has been removed from FurNation Worlds.
[edit] FurNation Tria
Tria moved to the Fur Valleys island group in April 7, 2006, and quickly became known as Masquerade Valley. Most of the buildings survived the move. No further information (as of April 7, 2006) is known.
Tria originally came online in October 2005 and was owned by Kodi Sachs.
[edit] Istaria Prime
Istaria, owned by Crawler Woyseck, was a sim located to the north of Alpha. It was added or moved to FurNation Worlds in late February of 2006. Half of it is zoned for rental, following the template of other sandbox areas. Istaria moved to the Fur Valleys island group on April 5, 2006, when FurNation Worlds went offline for 72 hours due to a billing error on the part of Linden Labs.
[edit] FurNation Kitsune
FurNation Kitsune, owned by Alynna Vixen, was orignally Kitsune Valley. FurNation Kitsune moved to FurNation in May of 2006. The sim is Japanese themed and is 90% rental parcels.
In the center of the sim is a large Japanese dwelling known affectionately as Kitsuhana. It is the pet project of Alynna Vixen who loves kitsune, foxes, and fairies. She is a half kitsune, half fairy hybrid.
Also in the sim can be found the FurNation Avatar Bazaar, containing vendors of all the major furry avatar creators in Second Life.
Its current disposition is unknown.
[edit] FurNation Reia
Reia is a mostly residential area occupied by large structures. The western edge used to house the FurNation FlyinTails Airfield (now known as simply FlyinTails Airfield), managed by former Furnation Air Marshall Effsey Nelson, until the field's move to Rabbit Valley in March 2006.
After "FlyinTails Airfield" left FurNation, Reia was converted to rental parcels. There is also an apartment building in the center of the sim. Shadowspawn Soothsayer became the Superintendent of the Reia Apartments in September 2006.
As of Janaury 2007, Shadowspawn Soothsayer purchased FurNation Reia from Nexxus Ambassador, with plans to improve the parcel layout and prim use in the sim.
Reia originally came online in February of 2006, the same day Omega did.
[edit] Furnation Asylum
This sim was based off of Danvers State Hospital in Massachusetts, which was at one time the world's largest psychiatric asylum, covering over 750,000 sq ft. Unfortunately, in 2006, the real property was sold to a contractor and since then most of the buildings have been demolished. At the time of this sim's opening in January 2007, in real life there remained standing only the three main buildings, all severely gutted. In place of the historic buildings that were demolished, apartment buildings have been erected.
Danvers is historically important for pioneering many medical techniques (most notably the pre-frontal lobotomy). It is said to have been the basis for H.P Lovecraft's infamous Arkham Sanitarium (the later basis for Arkham Asylum of Batman fame), was featured in the movie Session 9, and is also rumored to be the most haunted place in North America.
Danvers on the Web:
FurNation Asylum was dedicated to the memory of this unique place, because the owner of FurNation Asylum (Equino Faulkland) thought it was among the most beautiful buildings around. However, it has since been moved to the Ryder sim cluster and renamed Ryder Asylum.
[edit] Drakeal Estates and Drakeal Mall
Drakeal Estates were made up of three sims owned by Ethen Pow: Drakeal Prime, Drakeal Tui and Drakeal Wood. Drakeal Estates were extra rental lots that cost more, but which offered less lag and terraforming rights, giving rentors greater freedom. Drakeal Estates was a free-for-all type of community; Humans and Furs were ok in this area and many Businesses were built here.
The Furnation Mall, now Drakeal Mall, is also owned by Ethen Pow.
As of May 2008, Ethen Pow broke away from FurNation Worlds, and took his sims elsewhere.
Drakeal staff before the breakaway were as follows:
- Ethen Pow Owner
- Dexter Tones Director
- Karlhockey Forte General Manager
- Areth Gall Admin
- Milo Igaly Admin
Drakeal Prime appeared on Second Life before FurNation Dragon was online, about March-April 2007. It had 48 rental lots, and was policed by its staff to keep the peace. Drakeal Tui was the commercial sim of Drakeal Estates, and came online May 2007. Drakeal Wood was a themed sim, made to give more content to Drakeal Estates; it came online Feb 2nd, 2008.
